After Surgery: First 48 Hours

Just after surgery with her chest still open. You can't really see anything unless you get really close, but it is kind of an unreal concept. They actually packed the walls of her chest with a sterlile seaweed gauze and left her wide open. In most cases they close the top layer of skin and just leave the sternum open, but with Addie, she is completely open under the bandage. They do this in case of major swelling or bleeding. Pretty crazy....




Her chest was closed at about 7:30 on Saturday morning. She's done really well, so far. Here are some pictures of her resting comfortably after the closure....
