After Surgery: First 48 Hours
Just after surgery with her chest still open. You can't really see anything unless you get really close, but it is kind of an unreal concept. They actually packed the walls of her chest with a sterlile seaweed gauze and left her wide open. In most cases they close the top layer of skin and just leave the sternum open, but with Addie, she is completely open under the bandage. They do this in case of major swelling or bleeding. Pretty crazy....

Hang in there. Heavenly Father is watching over you and hears your prayers. I am glad she is doing so well.
ReplyDeleteOh how I dread the day we are back in there doing that again. Lily has ALWAYS come back with her chest open so it is almost a normal thing for me to see. I am glad that she is doing well. We are praying for a quick recovery and hopefully she wont spend another month at the hospital.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I missed you guys too, but it sounds like it was just a rough day and I'm glad you got to get out for a little bit. I've been thinking about you contantly today.. I talked to Beth and she said your meeting went well from her standpoint...I hope it went well for you guys and you were able to feel a little better about things. I think it's important to remember that she is only 1 week out of a major surgery, one that she went into not at her strongest.. even though you've been there for so long, she is doing great for what she just went through. That being said, I know how it JUST SUCKS sometimes and I think it's normal and good to have those days.. I have had plenty of them. I'm so glad we're getting together Monday because it's just so good to be with people who 'get it' and I'm glad you guys will be able to take a break and do something fun.
I'm glad Drew got to go with Molly today, but sometime soon I'd love to have him. Or you and Drew both for a little playdate over here. ANYTHING you guys need, we are ready and willing to do. This is getting really long for a blog comment, but I don't have your email.. I think I'll just call you tomorrow to chat..:)
